The City That Works Scholarship was created to help shine light on the hardworking people of Chicago, and reward them for all of their hard work and dedication in the classroom. This year’s scholarship received tons of incredible applicants, reminding us what makes our city so special! After careful consideration, we are excited to announce that Aubrey Sawyer has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 The City That Works Scholarship!
We would like to congratulate Aubrey Sawyer, the winner of the 2021 The City That Works Scholarship! Aubrey was raised in Aurora, IL, earning her bachelor’s degree in Criminology from The Pennsylvania State University. She began her career as a Naval Officer as a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) on the P-8A Poseidon before transitioning to a Public Affairs Officer. In May 2021 Aubrey completed her active-duty service and is eager to begin pursuing her law degree at University of Maryland Carey School of Law and hopes to become a Veterans Disability attorney. In her spare time she enjoys being a personal trainer, volunteering with the Junior League, and cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks. We could not be more proud to reward Aubrey for all of her hard work.
Here is what Aubrey had to say after hearing that she was selected as the winner of the 2021 The City That Works Scholarship: “I am incredibly humbled and honored to be chosen as the 2021 recipient of the City That Works Scholarship! Thank you to the Costa Ivone team for supporting students in their academic endeavors and your generosity. I am beyond appreciative to be selected as I am sure there were many other impressive applicants this year. Pursuing a degree in law is immensely exciting but also brings a significant financial burden. Receiving this award means so much to me as it allows me to focus on my studies and pursue valuable, unpaid internship opportunities”.
